Meet Robert

9-year-old Robert arrived at the Children’s Home Network in October of 2016, after being removed from his home due to parental neglect and unstable living conditions. Since Robert’s mother was unable to care for him, and his father wasn’t in the picture, Robert was placed into foster care.

Upon his arrival, Robert entered our Kids Village residential treatment program anxious and afraid. He was unable to perform simple self-care, and struggled adjusting to a structured home environment. He had difficulty communicating with adults, which often led to anger and withdrawal. Attending school was a daily challenge,  especially since he was behind reading grade level.

With the support of the Children’s Home Networks team of caregivers, Robert immediately began receiving the therapeutic interventions and educational support he needed. Over time, Robert began connecting with his primary caregiver, Grace, and found comfort in the stability of a structured home setting. He learned how to verbalize his feelings appropriately, and began making friends with other children.  His reading and writing skills improved with the help of his one-on-one tutoring sessions at the learning center, and he successfully passed the 4th grade.

In September of 2017, Robert was reunited with his mother and they moved into a new home. Before he left, he enjoyed a celebratory going away party with staff and friends. Robert left the Children’s Home Network happy and optimistic about his future.
